Coviderata

Eat, drink and be merry, for one day we all die
Despite the call to propagate the lie
That staying at home will make it go away
When all it does is keep the thing at bay

We can’t abolish death, and death has many means
A Pyrrhic victory beckons midst the scenes
Of livings lost and cancers left to spread,
Of politicians in over their head

‘The (single-issue) Science’, laser-bright and true
Illuminates the narrow; hides the wider view
The politicians, dazzled, bravely do their best
But, seeing mostly Covid, somehow miss the rest

The mortal masses’ duty all, all to fade and perish
Meantime why not live, and let live a life to cherish
And when one day unchosen comes the call of doom
Please let it be in person not on Zoom.
